WHO ARE WE?
Our watchword: SUSTAINABILITY OF THE LINE
Our association, TUG Horizon, (governed by the 1901 law), was created in 2006 following the merger between Horizon and an English group, TUG (Transmanche User Group – also representing a tug boat, figuratively “pushing” the line).
Convinced that the Dieppe-Newhaven line is vital for our economy, our association includes users, fans and friends of this historic Franco-British link, which has existed for 200 years.
The line, sometimes victim to economic, social and political events, remains fragile and is currently upheld thanks to substantial financial assistance from the Seine-Maritime department.
To this end, our association has welcomed around 780 sympathisers, of whom approximately 200 are active members today.

OUR MISSION
OBSERVATION OF THE LINE
Tug Horizon scrutinises the problems, delays, traffic flow, developments both on board and at the terminals, and also tariffs, timetables, etc.
ACTIVE PROPOSALS
Our observation and knowledge of the line gain us entry to meetings of the consultative committee of the public services of the SMPAT of which we are active members
LOBBYING
We attach great importance to creating relationships with the various political, administrative and commercial authorities, as well as with DFDS, the operator.
We are fortunate in that there is a general consensus in Dieppe as to the necessity of the Dieppe Newhaven line.
PROMOTION OF THE LINE
TUG organises various events (trips, meetings, English apéritifs, etc.) to promote the Dieppe-Newhaven line and put forward a proposal to the Seine-Maritime department to organise an important event in 2025 to celebrate the 200-year anniversary of the line, whilst the TUG GUIDE, available online, gives practical information for a channel crossing from Dieppe or Newhaven.
USER REPRESENTATION
TUG’s reputation allows us to speak to the operator, DFDS, and to the owner of the line, the Seine-Maritime department, about the difficulties, requests and problems of its passengers.
TUG has also managed to obtain a price reduction for it active members.
FRANCO-BRITISH RELATIONSHIPS
Our association includes a considerable number of English members.
However, our aim in the short term is to build a strong team in Newhaven capable of reinforcing the legitimacy, promotion and development of TUG and the line.
Our mode of operation
The annual general meeting organises elections of the 20 or so members of the board.
The members of the board elect the officers: President, vice-presidents, secretary, treasurer.
The board meets to discuss topics of the moment, 6-7 times a year.
Committees have also been created for the following:
- communication,
- Tug Guide,
- recruitment,
- trips
